CTN 2015 Summer Groups
CTN is thrilled to offer groups for children who are ready to put their skills to use in a larger group setting. We offer a variety of groups led by highly skilled therapists in their areas of expertise of sensory processing, speech language development, emotional and social development.
Our small groups are designed to support children who are in or have participated in a therapy program, but continue to have concerns related to social engagement and participation. Some children continue to receive individual therapy while also participating in group programming, while others are appropriate to participate in group therapy only. Small groups are a great transition for children who have completed individual therapy, but not yet ready to join large group activity.
CTN groups are planned around the child! We identify a set of children with similar needs and match up based on level of engagement, cognitive, and sensory needs.
Group programming offered for summer 2015 running June 15-August 24 at a frequency of 1x/week for one hour in length:
*Let’s Chat Speech Therapy Group (Wednesday 3:00-4:00): This group builds on social communication skills while targeting specific phonological, articulation, and language based needs identified by a speech language therapist. A great opportunity to take the next step in applying focused speech goals into a social opportunity.
*No more worries Group (Tuesday 3:00-4:00): Childhood anxiety has a great impact on sense of self, relationships with family and friends. This group is a unique opportunity to work with both a mental health clinician and occupational therapist, supporting both emotional and sensory needs within a small group. This group is ideal for children that have received individual therapy, but are looking to apply coping strategies among a small group of peers.
*Post-Adoptive/Foster Families (Monday 3:00-4:00): This one of a kind group is both for parents and children led by our family and child mental health clinician and an occupational therapist. This group will include parents and children as well as parallel groups for additional skill development for just parents and just children. Parents will be supported with managing and understanding daily stressors related to post-adoptive issues. Children will also be participating in group supporting skills to enhance relationships, engagement, and regulation.
* Picky Eaters Feeding Group (Thursday 3:00-4:00): Eating and feeding skills are highly refined within a social context whether it be family meals, lunchroom, or out for lunch. This group incorporates principles from SOS Feeding Program among other complimentary interventions by a seasoned feeding therapist.
*Let’s Play Social Skills Groups (days/time to be determined): Our Social Skills groups offer an opportunity for children to learn social skills and make friends in a fun and engaging environment. Children who are showing challenges with the following would be appropriate for this program:
– Difficulties making or keeping friends – Misreading social cues – Too rough with peers or difficulty with body space – Difficulty with expected social responses
