Music and Movement Group

Incorporating Sensory Regulation Principles

This fun group experience is based on the music and movement curriculum developed by Musikgarten (www.musikgarten.org). Musikgarten’s proven curriculum provides children with developmentally appropriate activities using music to awaken movement, language and social development. The class will be co-taught by an occupational therapist and a speech therapist, both of whom are experienced with the Musikgarten curriculum. The curriculum will be adapted to support individual children’s specific sensory needs, such as motor planning concerns or sensory defensiveness. The main goal of the group during each session is to ensure that the child is both engaged in the music process, as well as engaged with others in the group: their parents and their peers.   Parents will have the opportunity to play musically with their children, while being supported and coached to help their child participate most successfully.

This class is also appropriate for children who are typically developing; the class will be an enticing blend of music and movement for them and they will help others by serving as role models.  At the conclusion of the music class, an optional snack experience will be available to enhance the social experience while simultaneously supporting further feeding and eating development.
